Two questions:
1) Why do coaches and managers in baseball wear team uniforms and they don't in other sports?
2) Do you think that God believes there are any non-"Pharisaical" religious organizations in existence?

Question #1: That is hilarious. I have wondered the same thing too. Maybe it's so they'll blend into the crowd of players...camouflage or something.
Question #2: It would be interesting to know wouldn't it?! It's an interesting question. I've always wondered what God really thinks of religious organizations, etc. What made you ask?
Beck,
Can you imagine NBA coaches in uniform??
I asked #2 because the current book I am reading is giving me a whole new perspective on the sermon on the mount. Specifically about how the internal transformation drives the ability to live the way God wants us to live. I think I too often get caught in the "religious" mindset of trying to do the "right" thing. I totally miss the boat. I can't do the right thing unless I am laser focused on Jesus.
In my opinion, religious organizations allow us to focus on the "right" things too much.
Wow! As far as Question #1, all the other uniforms would look really silly on the coaches and managers. Only baseball has that much class!
Question #2 – I like the way you think!! Have you ever wondered why Jesus spent most of his ministry time OUTSIDE the temple?? The book I’m currently reading, The Cross Examination of Jesus Christ, has really made me rethink what we do. It’s really radically shaking me up. I must admit it makes me really uncomfortable because what I’ve come to know as “church” has really suited me just fine until I read this book. I think in all our efforts to do church, we’ve almost completely missed the mark on being the church. My current journey is causing me to long to throw out everything that I’ve come to know as “church” and start over with just God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Sounds like a great discussion to have over some good home cookin’ and flying rolls. We ought to get our lunch group together and do some growing together!!
Yes, now I have. Thanks for the mental picture! I'll never look at Don Nelson or George Karl the same way again.
Sounds like an interesting book...you'll have to let me know what else you think about it. My guess is that I would probably like it.
See you guys tonight!
I read your blog the other day but didn't comment. I was just thinking this about baseball managers the other day when we were watching a game. I wonder if that is when you blogged?! :O)
The song on the radio this morning when my alarm went off was "Fields of Grace", by Big Daddy Weave. There is a line that says "There's a place where religion finally dies." The next line is: "There's a place where I lose my selfish pride." Interesting how those go together, isn't it?
I love you! Thank you for how you continually challenge me in my faith walk. I know that is why God gave me YOU!
Oh, and I am wondering why Shane won't ever look at my dad the same way again! HAHAHAHA!!!!
I read this today and immediately thought of this post! Just had to share it with you. Enjoy!
